Only a few days left and I’m sitting here, like all those other people out there, stoked/stressed/excited as a little kid for Christmas for the biggest event of the year. Looking forward to the biggest and baddest event of the year, SYCDL17. So little time, so much to do. Do I have everything? Do the riders have all they need? I’m probably going to forget something but hey.. Let’s write some words about SYCLD and go skate! SYCLD year 5, YEAR 5?! I remember the first edition like it was yesterday, I’ve just started building some boards for fun, nothing […]
Hi everyone… the day before yesterday I had to inform the people involved I would not be at SYCLD myself.. Why? Well… First, every year I say some weeks before the event ‘I’m not taking any chances with anything because I can not be injured at SYCLD” (suddenly remember how I reacted when Valentijn tried to convince me to go mini ramp skating 3 weeks ago; “NO! It’s almost SYCLD, if I break something now it will be disastrous” and him joking he will just take over) and then last Friday I went riding my horse Imperia (who got me […]
For them this is an old dream to come true. They have been looking to work together with European manufacturers for a long time and it has been a struggle to have the decks produced in a matter and with a quality that meets their own standards. On their quest to find extraordinary craftsmanship and the ability to process high performance composites they have finally been successful. They are happy to have found On The Grind Sporting Goods based in Cologne, Germany to produce a really high-end lineup covering a wide range of disciplines from dancing to downhill. Welcome to […]

The logo has been made by Eddy Dessaso and the video has been edited by Miquel Moya Flaquer. Go and support this project!! Kids are the future of longboarding and for these kids longboarding is their […]
A Saturday night in the life of…the luckiest girl in the world… Only two weeks to go.. and it’s Saturday night.. and I’m in a bar (of a friend, Bossa Bar, very nice!). Nothing strange but well I’m here to work at our beloved SYCLD. I live in Tarifa, most southern point and the windiest place of Europe (yeejj kitesurfing!) but because it’s already around 8+ Bft wind for a few days my Wifi at home is on a strike. So I moved my office here, like I do regularly, having a drink and finishing a few little details for […]
In China, BBQ Board shop is broadly known by almost every longboard skater and fan. They are delighted to organize a variety of competitions, meetings and other activities. They hope to see more people being able to experience the joy of longboarding. One thing else to mention is that they ONLY sell longboarding-related equipments. The shop is located in Changsha, China. A big welcome to our colleagues of BBQ Board Shop!
Today I’ve got a message from someone was offended by my comment ‘duhh’ behind the girls competition explanation. This comment I placed there because it was kind of obvious that a girls competition is for girls. And to be honest the thought that it would mean anything else made me angry. The first time I have been angry during 5 years of organizing SYCLD. You know why? I’m done with the ‘girls’ issue. After years of debating the girls competition within SYCLD and the pressure put on organizers like me to treat girls ‘special’ .. it’s time for me to […]

Always welcome to Beijing to skate at 504 […]
Hello dear family, In the car driving to Eindhoven I was thinking about the start of this event, just skate together.. and that it’s in some way still the same.. it’s like coming home <3 Spend so many years at Strijp-S and the Klokgebouw is like a home for our ever growing family. Where we meet again, where we share, where we have fun and make and realise dreams. But the funny thing is that in the beginning I knew all and now I don’t 🙂 There was a time we posted on forums “I saw a guy in red […]

So.. here I sit at the kitchen table of the ‘Girls Love Boards’ house in Tarifa, Spain… writing this to you all. Being a […]
BTFL started as the first longboard brand made for girls in 2015. BTFL – “beautiful longboards” – develops boards and designs specifically for young women. Tailored to women’s body sizes and weights, the construction and individual technical features of the BTFL boards allow lighter, more petite riders to cruise comfortably on their BTFL longboards. These make it easier for beginners to learn, and also give advanced riders the chance to go to their limits. We are so happy to have this brand join us for making the women shine and kick ass!!
Based in Santa Cruz, CA, one of the original hotbeds of skateboarding, Blood Orange strives to bring you premium aftermarket skateboard accessories. At first it was a goal to make a great bushing for Caliber Trucks. Then they decided they liked them so much that they should offer them as aftermarket products for everyone to enjoy (no matter what truck you ride). After getting a great response for their bushings, they decided to develop premium aftermarket skateboard accessories including griptape, slide gloves, hardware, and wheels among other things. The things we all need! Bring it on!!
Caliber Truck Co. is a skateboard truck brand dedicated to creating the highest-quality trucks on the market. They bring a minimalist mentality to the design of their trucks, giving you everything you want and nothing more. In their mind quality will always come first. After all, how can you sell a product that you wouldn’t be stoked to ride? And of course we are very stoked to welcome Caliber to the team!!!

Dear all, Loved to read the articles of Cindy Zhou (BIG UPS!) and Maxwell Storey Dubler about what men and women in long boarding should not be doing. And it was too easy to give this blog this title.. Of course everyone just should visit SYCLD this year! But now on topic. During the talks about the whole ‘boy / girl thing’ within the competition setup of ‘So.. You Can Longboard Dance?’, past discussions I had within other action sport disciplines came in handy. Of course women are good marketing tools and form a smaller group in many kind of action sports (so […]

Moonshine MFG was born on the factory floor by a group of passionate skateboarders who believed it was possible to use NEW technology to build a better deck. Founded in 2010 the Moonshine Factory was building Slingshot Kiteboards, Slingshot Wakeboards and Remote Wakeskates. The employee’s building these boards knew it was possible to use the materials, machinery and process to build a revolutionary longboard skateboarding deck. On their own time, these skateboarders designed, developed and provided a final working prototype to the Moonshine Operations Manager. These prototypes were given to some top riders for testing and the feedback was extremely […]

Why we do what we do Before we started out with building boards we were going hard. Skating a lot, and breaking our first commercial boards. The second boards we bought were a bit more expensive, since it needed to withstand a generous amount of whooping. But we all wrecked all the boards within weeks. This dissatisfaction with price and quality led to the idea of Timber Boards. Also, the boards on the market didn’t quite ‘fit’, concave-wise and flow-wise to satisfy our skating style and what we believed longboarding could evolve into. Now, a good 7 years later, we […]

This was one of the smaller longboard/skateshops that have their heart in the right place. Although the shop as it was doesn’t exist anymore they do a lot for the community and have been supporters from the first moment. The name “So.. You Can longboard Dance?” is a wink to the event they organised called “Dancing with the Stars”. Maarten of the Boardfather is still like our daddy, making sure the competitions are set up and executed in the right way.
All the way from Israel these hippies provide you with the most beautiful dancing boards out there. The hardest part of organising SYCLD is handing over their boards to the winners.
